Committee Digest: June 2019
AutoSolo Times
This month, we discussed past and future events as we always do. Our recent AutoSolo had brilliant feedback, but one thing raised by the organising team was the timing display. The little screen in the van isn’t great, so we want to add some more screens so that all the results can be seen at once. We are currently recording the times in a spreadsheet that was developed more than 10 years ago and has limitations if we change the format, such as four runs per test as we did last year. The plan is to replace the system with a database and web interface running on a Raspberry Pi. If you’ve got skills in this area, we’d really value your input. We’ve started a project on GitHub so we can collaborate.
Online Entries Payment
We’ve started accepting payment via PayPal for membership this year and for several years, we’ve been accepting entries to events online with payment via BACS. This year, we’re planning to accept payment for events online. Initially, we’re looking to simply use a PayPal form, but we’d really like to build a web application to make it a better user experience in the future. If you have skills in this area and want to get involved, please get in touch.
Family Karting Event
Simon Clemow will be organising a karting event at Teamsport Avonmouth in the new year. We’ve not done any club karting since the Endurance Karting annual events we used to enter several teams for. Keep an eye out for details in the next couple of months, but it’ll be an evening event with separate sessions for 8-13 year olds and teenagers/adults.
