On This Day: 1962 Three Clubs Sprint

On this day in 1962, we ran a sprint at Castle Combe Circuit.  The course started at Camp Corner and ran for 440 yards down to Folly.  There were family battles as Dr Peter Parkes and his son, Andrew, competed against each other in their Jaguar E-Type and Austin Healey Sprite.  It’s unclear from the text who won.  Ralph and Angela Wilding competed in a Mini, which the Evening Post reporter was keen to point out belonged to Ralph.  5 hundredths separated them at the finish.  Presumably Mrs Wilding had to cook the dinner as a result.

Meanwhile, Ron Fry was already at the bar, having finished a good half a second clear of the Parkes battle, old chap!  His Ferrari was clearly a cut above the Jaguar of Dr Parkes.
