Sunday Story: 1960 Allen Trophy Trial

On this day in 1960, it was reported that we ran the Allen Trophy Trial, which was actually on 11th December.  We still run the Allen Classic Trial today, even when Storm Bert tries its best to thwart efforts.  62 years ago, it was Charles Bigwood who won the event driving a VW.  The event started in Yate and finished up at Minchinhampton, no doubt via the Nailsworth Ladder.

We spotted this MX5 near the finish of that 1960 trial last weekend.  It’s not quite eligible for today’s event, but it was nice to see and well built.
